The transmission principle of active WDM solution is similar to that of semi-active WDM solution. The difference is that both the local and remote ends of active WDM solution use active WDM equipment. The transmission principle is as follows:

As shown in the figure above, in the active wavelength division solution, in addition to the coarse wavelength division CWDM, the wavelength division unit can also adopt the dense wavelength division DWDM, and the optical amplification unit OA can be configured at the active devices at both ends to achieve ultra-long Distance transmission and large-capacity transmission.
This solution is suitable for areas where the power supply of the remote base station in the central office is relatively convenient, and there are two sets of unconnected optical fibers; a large population density and a large area for Internet access. The operator of this solution is actively discussing and experimenting.
Solution advantages:
1. The devices at both ends are highly integrated with WDM and optical protection to realize automatic switching between the main and backup roads;
2. It can realize super long distance and super large capacity base station transmission;
3. Real-time monitoring of the receiving and emitting of each optical module at both ends (requires OTU board);
4. All node devices support remote visual management, early warning and alarm, which can quickly locate fault points and greatly reduce manual operation and maintenance costs;
5. Simple implementation, no need to change the original network structure, just add fiber;
6. The active equipment is equipped with dual power supplies and supports both DC and AC power, which effectively reduces the equipment failure rate.
7. Can be used for complex long-link networking and ring networking.
Disadvantages of the solution: The power supply plan needs to be considered, and the initial construction cost is relatively large.
