A wavelength division multiplexer is a device that can couple two or more different wavelengths of optical signals in a single core optical fiber for transmission. Conversely, it can also separate and demultiplexing two or more different wavelengths of optical signals in a single core optical fiber separately. As shown in the figure, two different beams of light are input from the common end. WDM devices allow one specific wavelength of light to be transmitted and output at the transmitting end, while the remaining wavelengths are reflected and coupled to the reflecting end for output, which is the process of light splitting. Similarly, the optical path of WDM devices is reversible.

The CWDM module of the coarse wavelength division multiplexer adopts TFF (Thin Film Filter) technology, which complies with the ITU-T G.694.2 standard and has one channel every 20nm in the range of 1270-1610 nm. It can carry 2-18 CWDM wavelengths through a single fiber optic cable, and each wavelength will not affect the other, so the signal will not interfere. Each channel is usually transparent to the speed and type of data, so any combination of transmission service types can be transmitted simultaneously through a single fiber or a pair of fibers.
