Guidelines for Connecting Wavelength Division Multiplexers and Optical Modules

With the increasing shortage of optical fiber resources, more and more WDM devices with optical fiber capacity expansion function are used. The wavelength division multiplexer must be used in conjunction with the wavelength division module. Today, Sharetop is going to popularize how to connect WDM and WDM modules.

Dual Fiber Wavelength Division Connection

WDM is divided into single and dual fibers, and the connection methods are different. Following is an example of dual-fiber coarse wavelength division multiplexer to illustrate the connection method of dual-fiber wavelength division multiplexer and wavelength division module.

As shown above, this is a common point-to-point optical transmission solution. Wavelength division multiplexer and wavelength division module are used in point A and B. Details of the connection are shown in the following figure:

As shown in the figure, the wavelength division module is inserted on the switch. Each optical module emits light of a specific wavelength. The light emitted by the optical module is connected to the combined (upper row) channel ports of the corresponding wavelength of the wavelength division multiplexer, and the light receiving ports of the optical module are also connected to the demultiplexer (lower row) channel ports of the corresponding wavelength of the wavelength of the wavelength division multiplexer. Each optical module is connected in this way. After the connection, the light emitted by each channel optical module is multiplexed into a beam of light, which comes out of M-COM, and the light emitted from the end enters D-COM.

Single Fiber Wavelength Division Connection

Single-fiber wavelength division multiplexer have to use half of the channel to connect the light-emitting port of the optical module and the other half to connect the light-receiving port of the optical module because both the light-receiving and the light-emitting are on single fiber. The following is illustrated by the dense wavelength division multiplexer connection.

As shown above, users need to use single-fiber WDM to transmit 80G services, using 40-channel single-fiber WDM.

As shown above, the dense-wave optical module with wavelength C21-C28 is at point A, and the dense-wave optical module with wavelength C31-38 is at point B. Then the connection method is as shown above. The emits port of point A C21 module connects the C21 channel of the wavelength division, and the receiving port connects the C31 channel of the wavelength division; the connection method of C22-C28 is similar. B-point C31 module's emits port connects C31 channel and receiving port connects C21 channel; C32-C38 connection method is similar. Through this connection, both transmitters and receivers are multiplexed onto a single fiber for transmission.
